ความหมายของ Active Voice
Active Voice คือประโยคที่ประธานเป็นผู้กระทำหรือแสดงกิริยานั้นโดยตรง
โครงสร้างประโยค Active Voice Subject + Verb + Object
ตัวอย่างประโยค Active Voice The dog bites the boy.
ตัวอย่างประโยค Active Voice สุนัขกัดเด็กผู้ชาย (The dog เป็นประธาน แสดงกิริยาbites (กัด)the boy เป็นกรรมถูกกระทำโดยสุนัข
He kicked the ball yesterday.
เขาเตะลูกบอลเมื่อวานนี้ (Heเป็นประธาน แสดงกิริยา kicked (เตะ) the ball ซึ่งเป็นกรรมถูกกระทำโดย He )
They are eating rice.
พวกเขากำลังกินข้าว (Theyเป็นประธาน แสดงกิริยา are eating (กำลังกิน) rice ซึ่งเป็นกรรมถูกกระทำโดยThey)

ความหมายของ Passive Voice
ประโยค Passive Voiceก็คือการกลับประโยค Active Voice โดยเอากรรมขึ้นมาเป็นประธาน นั่นคือ Passive Voice เป็นประโยคที่ประธานเป็นผู้ถูกกระทำกริยานั้นหรือเป็นผู้ได้รับผลจากการกระทำนั้น
โครงสร้างประโยคPassive Voice
Object + Verb to be + Past Participle (V3 ) + (by Subject)
ตัวอย่างประโยค Passive Voice
The house is built by a carpenter.
Object Verb to be + V3 by Subject
The house s built by a carpenter
บ้านถูกสร้างโดยช่างไม้

Active Voice : The dog bites the boy. สุนัขกัดเด็กผู้ชาย
เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive voice จะได้ว่า
The boy is bitten by the dog. เด็กผู้ชายถูกกัดโดยสุนัข
Active Voice : He kicked the ball yesterday.
เด็กผู้ชายเตะลูกบอลเมื่อวานนี้
เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive voice จะได้ว่า
The ball was kicked by him yesterday. ลูกบอลถูกเตะโดยเขาเมื่อวานนี้

จะเห็นได้ว่าใจความในประโยค Active voice และ Passive voice นั้นมีความหมายอย่างเดียวกัน ผิดกันก็ตรงที่ประโยค Active voice นั้นประธานคือ Mary เป็นผู้กระทำกริยา eats ส่วนประโยค Passive voice นั้นประธานคือ A mango เป็นผู้ถูกกระทำกริยา
